Our Academic Programs
The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers graduate programs in biomedical engineering leading to the master of science (M.S.) and doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees and the professional degrees of Engineer and Applied Scientist.
Who We Are
The BME Department is a newly-formed department, created in the fall of 2014. It includes both faculty appointed directly to it and affiliated faculty from across the School of Engineering and Applied Science. This breadth of faculty provides students a range of courses and research opportunities related to biomedical engineering. The links below give an introduction to who we are.
What We Do
BME faculty and students conduct research programs across a wide array of topics in biomedical engineering--everything from biomaterials to imaging; from biosensors and actuators to fluidics and micro/nanotechnology; from regenerative medicine to health care delivery systems. In conducting our research, we also take advantage of the access that our Washington, DC location provides to federal laboratories and agencies, as well as our access to GW's Schools of Medicine and Public Health. Visit our research pages to learn more about our research programs and current projects.
